Welcome to Autumn and Welcome to Wool Month, an annual celebration of all things wool, brought to us by the Campaign for Wool. This year's month long event was launched in London on the 3rd October with the evening hosted by Chairman of the Campaign, Sir Nicholas Coleridge. The evening was a showcase of images, information and products from the four key wool growing countries of Australia, British Wool, New Zealand and South Africa. Obviously we can't all go to London - so we sent our MD Mark Lynn who, as you can see, had a thoroughly enjoyable evening!
Throughout the month The Campaign will welcome a host of in-store retailer events, pop ups and panel discussions all supporting and promoting the wonderful fibre of wool.
We have been helping on the Campaign for Wool 'House of Wool' stand at Decorex, The UK's celebration of Interior Design - held at London's Olympia from 6th to the 9th October. Later in the month there will be a trade event at Salts Mill in Yorkshire targeting industry supporters and including the International Wool Textile Organisation and British Wooland Woolmark.

Jamie’s Farm is a charitable organisation with six farms across the UK. They create a nurturing environment where children participate in hands-on activities under staff guidance, free from electronic distractions, promoting respect and tangible outcomes. To enhance the charity’s financial sustainability, trustees are building two cabins on the Monmouthshire farm for Airbnb rentals. Roderick James from Rodrick James Architects and wife Amanda Markham, an interior designer, have graciously offered their expertise for the cabin designs. Westwind Oak Buildings are managing the construction.
We have now completed the wool insulated panels for the Cabins at Jamies Farm, providing them with a highly insulated, Low VOC and breathable yet very airtight (once the window and doors are in) shell. Currently the cabins are fully insulated with Thermafloc VCL on the inside and Thermafleece breather membrane wrapping the cabins. There is now scaffolding around the cabins to give access for the roofer to seal and apply the green roof.
The team here at Westwind Oak found using Thermafleece CosyWool a pleasure, previous projects with insulated panels have been itchy and unpleasant, whereas this time it was down with ease, even on the occasional sunny day when the fibres are prone to sticking to sweat.
We were able to tear the insulation easily and accurately to get a nice snug fit, using mineral wool or fiberglass we would have had to use a knife and straight edge to prevent hazardous fibres filling the air in the workshop. This also allowed us to insulate the panels whilst other members of the team worked in the same space.
The Thermofloc VCL is a very substantial VCL that did not tear, yet cut cleanly and easily with a knife. This allowed us to fit the VCL membrane in the controlled environment of the workshop and then transport the panels without the worry of the VCL being damaged.
Overall, it was we are very happy with our experience working with Thermafeece and using their products, we would highly recommend them for any project both large and small. Those of us carrying out our personal project are now using Thermafleec as the insulation.
In the middle of September we decided to pre-empt Wool Month with an office outing to visit the working sheepdog demonstrations held by Gary Miller and his famliy who farm just up the road from us here in the Lakes. This was such an interesting evening, not only to see the dogs in action but to hear about the ethos of the farm and the care given to both the countryside and the animals. The sheepdog trials have now finished for the year but will be back in 2025. We can thoroughly recommend! Visit the website www.millerfarming.co.uk, follow on instagram or visit the farm shop at Smithy Garth CA11 0RD
Not something you see every day. The City of London’s annual Sheep Drive and Livery Fair was held on Sunday the 29th September with Actor and Producer Damian Lewis leading the sheep over Southwark Bridge. A long-established charity event, celebrating a Freeman’s ancient “right” to bring sheep to market over the Thames, toll free; all in aid of raising funds for The Woolmen Charity and The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

"Thanks,, I'm fully converted now 👍 won't be using lime putty for a while that's for sure, much better finish compared to what I've been using for the past 8 years or so, and peace of mind that it doesn't crack, lighter, less mess, no binding in needed.
I was also pleasantly surprised about how far it goes per bag 👍 definitely a game changer for me, will be back next week sometime for some more."
"Used their product Patchcote on my timber framed house for some repairs.
Really easy to mix, apply and finish.
Left-over product was just as pliable 3 days later, it can be left sealed inside the container supplied, after mixing, for up to a year!
Best product I’ve worked with!!"
"Limecote and Warmcote are ideal products for use on timber framed buildings and low strength substrates with their excellent flexibility, bond, and light weight compared to sanded plasters. Being dry bagged makes it easy to transport and store, with the added advantage of being able to adjust the mix to suit thin or very thick coats without compromising the product, or the quality of the finished work."
